Work Health Safety Act set for review

The Palaszczuk Government today announced that a five-yearly review of the Work Health Safety Act will begin next week.

Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace said robust health and safety laws are critical to ensuring workers are protected, and that those in control of workplaces are held to account if the law is not followed.

Unemployment rate falls to 3.4%

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 3.4 per cent in July 2022, according to data released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

Bjorn Jarvis, head of labour statistics at the ABS, said: “With employment falling by 41,000 people and the number of unemployed people also decreasing by 20,000, the unemployment rate fell by 0.1 percentage points, to 3.4 per cent.”

Queensland’s retail trading hours have been further streamlined and simplified through new laws passed by Parliament today.

Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace said the laws mean all recommendations made following an inquiry earlier this year will now be implemented.
