The Andrews Labor Government is encouraging more people in Melbourne’s south-east to get active outdoors, upgrading two ovals at Jells Park.
Minister for Environment Ingrid Stitt announced a $4 million investment is set to rejuvenate Jells Park’s northern and southern grounds.
The project will deliver new synthetic cricket pitches designed to meet Cricket Australia standards and a small pavilion for athletes.
The development will also accommodate a range of different sports and recreational activities so that locals can enjoy more of Jells Park, all year round.
The local community has helped to shape the design of the new Jells Park Shared User Trail – improving the parks connections while preserving important spaces for plants and local animals.
Through the $21 million Urban Parks Active Wellbeing program, new and improved barbeques, drinking fountains and picnic tables have already been installed across the park. An all-abilities bathroom will also be constructed in late 2023.
Works on the sports field is expected to be completed in late 2024, while the pavilion will be completed in 2025.
