The City of Casey has welcomed the unveiling of a range of safety, utility and amenity upgrades to the Linden Place area in Doveton, including the Aboriginal Gathering Place.
City of Casey Chair of Administrators Noelene Duff PSM and City of Casey CEO Glenn Patterson joined Minister for Crime Prevention Natalie Hutchins, and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Prevention of Family Violence and Minister for Women Gabrielle Williams at the Aboriginal Gathering Place on Friday 27 May to launch the completed works. Also in attendance were representatives from the Aboriginal community, local businesses and Neighbourhood Watch Victoria.
The upgrades, achieved with the help of over $87,000 received through the Public Safety Infrastructure Fund, were designed to make the space more welcoming and safer for the community. Works included improved lighting, safety railings, an upgraded basketball space, and two murals featuring artwork by Ian Harrison.
City of Casey Chair of Administrators Noelene Duff PSM said the works have made real a difference to the look, feel and accessibility of the shops, alleyway, and the Aboriginal Gathering Place.
“The upgrades incorporate principles designed to reduce crime and improve personal safety, due in part to the valuable input of Victoria Police, who undertook safety audits to help pinpoint risks and make recommendations,” Ms Duff said.
“These works are a fine example of Council partnering with the State Government towards great outcomes for our community.”
