Urging Tasmanian businesses to stay COVID safe

Minister for Building and Construction

Tasmanians have played a crucial role in keeping themselves and their communities safe during the COVID-19 pandemic and our Government thanks everyone for their efforts so far.

As we prepare to relax our border restrictions with low risk jurisdictions on 26 October, it’s important that all Tasmanian businesses review their COVID-Safety plans and processes and ensure they are clearly communicating requirements with patrons and customers.

As outlined in our Safe Border Strategy released last week, Tasmanian businesses are required to record in writing how they are meeting the minimum standards required by Public Health. This is generally done through a COVID Safety Plan which documents the steps businesses are taking to reduce the risk of COVID-19 for their staff and customers.

Businesses are inspected on a risk basis for continued compliance with their COVID-19 Safety Plan and the Work Health and Safety Act 2012, with improvement notices issued when required.

Our workplaces and industries are doing a wonderful job with their COVID Safety plans and we urge all businesses to keep up that good work as we move into the next important stage of our recovery process.

It is pleasing to see how willing employers, workers and the community are in contributing and playing their important part in keeping Tasmanians safe and our economy open for business.

In addition to businesses taking steps to keep their workers, patrons and customers safe – we need the help of Tasmanians to keep on top of COVID.
