Victorians deserve world-class care – and that means making sure our hospitals have the equipment to deliver it.
Labor is delivering another $113 million to upgrade lifesaving equipment and ageing infrastructure at hospitals across Victoria.
Submissions are now open for the Medical Equipment Replacement Program (MERP) and the Engineering Infrastructure Replacement Program (EIRP).
The MERP, worth more than $400 million overall, will replace critical medical equipment – helping to slash patient wait times and speed up diagnoses.
Projects that have been previously funded via the program include CT scanners, digital x-ray units, fluoroscopy units and surgical microscopes
The EIRP, worth $387 million overall, fixes ageing hospital infrastructure before they give out – boosting patient safety.
Previously funded projects included upgrades to fire detection and alarm systems, electrical switchboards and lifts
With $55 million added in this year’s budget for these funds, Labor has invested more than $787 million across both programs, delivering close to 400 projects statewide, including:
- Peter Mac’s new surgical microscope supporting ear, nose and throat surgeries
- New nurse call systems at the Alfred Hospital, Barwon Health and Colac Area Health
- Critical lift replacements at Dandenong Hospital, Northeast Health Wangaratta and Portland District Health.
These investments are putting the latest technology in the hands of our doctors and nurses.
While Labor continues to back our hospitals, Jess Wilson’s Liberals would cut $40 billion in services.
That means cuts to hospitals, cuts to nurses and cuts to world class care.
Only Labor has new solutions to make life easier, safer and more affordable.
As stated by Minister for Health Infrastructure Melissa Horne
“Labor is delivering world class care for all Victorians through dedicated funds to replace ageing medical equipment.”
