Virtual tour showcases Melbourne water-harvesting expertise

Austrade

Austrade in China has launched a prototype Virtual Reality (VR) tour that highlights Australia’s strengths in water harvesting and environment management in urban areas.

The Royal Park Virtual Tour site was developed in partnership with the Cooperative Research Centre for Water Sensitive Cities (CRCWSC) and launched in August.

The unique virtual experience showcases Australian expertise in water management. It is designed to cultivate overseas interest and trigger opportunities for global collaboration.

Urban water harvesting – a success story

Visitors gain a bird’s-eye view of the Melbourne’s Royal Park Stormwater Harvesting Scheme. Located four kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD, the scheme is one of the city’s most successful harvesting projects.

The site spans 170 hectares of green open space and includes the Royal Melbourne Zoo. It is typically used for recreational activities such as team sports, walking, running, and cycling.

Besides visuals, the site includes technical information on inflows, treatment, pumps, tanks and water storage. It allows visitors to explore sediment trapping techniques and understand maintenance.

Over time, additional content, language and interactive capability will be added. This will enhance the experience for overseas organisations that are curious about Australian expertise in urban water harvesting and environment management.

Collaboration to promote urban water management

Austrade has partnered with a range of Australian organisations, including the CRCWSC, to promote opportunities for constructive collaboration between Australia and China.

In August, Austrade launched a multilingual digital campaign on a range of platforms to promote Australian capabilities in water management resilience programs and sustainable environments.

Content is also available through Austrade’s WeChat mini-program themed ‘Clean and Green – A Liveable and Sustainable Future.’ This profiles 18 Australian organisations and includes 16 case studies.

Since the start of the campaign, four live-streamed webinars have attracted an audience of over 9,000 industry professionals in China. These webinars have helped industry figures in Australia to share professional insights into environmental water-management issues.
