Vying for a Grand Final Day birth

Members of Westgate Highway Patrol and local units were kicking gaols early this morning when they helped deliver a baby girl in Tottenham.

Officers intercepted a dual cab ute on Geelong Road after it was detected driving erratically about 12.10am.

The driver pulled over and told police that his wife was giving birth.

Officers checked the front seat passenger and found that she was in fact in the late stages of labour.

An ambulance was called and as they were getting out of their vehicle the police officers delivered the baby girl.

She arrived safely at 12.20am and the mother and child were taken to hospital for a check-up.

Dad and the baby girl’s two brothers, who were in the back of the car at the time of the birth, followed the ambulance to hospital.

The members now have a cracking tale to tell at today’s Grand Final Day BBQ.
