Western Australians will join millions around the world this week in welcoming in the Chinese Lunar New Year, which runs from 10 to 24 February, 2024.

Spectacular celebrations will be held across the State, with lion dancing and firecrackers heralding the start of the Year of the Dragon.

The popular annual Chung Wah Perth Chinese New Year Fair returns to Northbridge and Yagan Square on Sunday, 11 February 2024, and features entertainment, cultural performances, and food stalls. Hosted by the Chung Wah Association, this major festival is a highlight of WA’s cultural calendar and will attract thousands from across the community.

The Cook Labor Government is proud to support the Perth Chinese New Year Fair with $115,000 in funding through the Office of Multicultural Interests, Lotterywest, and Development WA.

The 2024 Year of Dragon has already kicked off in style with special Shanghai-to-Perth direct flights. Fourteen inbound flights have been scheduled over the Chinese Lunar New Year period between 20 January and 18 February 2024, allowing families to be reunited for the festivities.

The Southeast Asian Lunar New Year is known in China as the Spring Festival – Chunji in Mandarin, while Koreans call it Seollal and Vietnamese refer to it as Tt.
