Wagga’s Toy Drive helps bring some early Christmas Cheer – Riverina

Christmas will come early for sick and disadvantaged kids in the Riverina, with the delivery of some special gifts.

NSW Police Officers from Riverina Police District, along with members of the community have collected hundreds of gifts that will benefit the Multicultural Council of Wagga Wagga, the Wagga Women and Children’s Refuge, as well as the Wagga Wagga Base Hospital Emergency Department.

Today (Friday 22 December) officers from Wagga Wagga Police Station will hand over gifts to the Wagga Women’s and Children’s Refuge. Police will deliver the remaining gifts to the Wagga Wagga Base Hospital Emergency Department on Christmas Eve.

Police officers, local businesses, schools and the community have donated hundreds of gifts over the past eight weeks, as part of the Annual Toy Drive.

A wide range of toys have been donated, including Lego, books, dolls and arts and crafts

Riverina Police District, Acting Inspector Barry Roberts, said the response has been incredible.

“It never ceases to amaze me, the generosity of our local community and businesses to bring a smile to those doing it the tough at Christmas time,” Inspector Roberts said.

“If we can bring some extra cheer and allow these kids to forget their pain and where they are on Christmas day, then we’ve done our job right.”

The annual Toy Drive is a partnership between NSW Police, the Murrumbidgee Local Health District and local community organisations.
