The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is warning waste operators they must have the right waste tracking process in place before they can legally dispose of waste.
The reminder comes after the EPA fined a Gunnedah man $750 for an alleged offence relating to the transport and disposal of asbestos waste.
On 28 November last year the man transported 2680kg of bonded asbestos waste to Gunnedah Landfill that was not recorded in Waste Locate, the waste compliance tracking system.
Anyone transporting and disposing of commercial quantities of waste in NSW must use the tracking system and have a valid consignment number.
When the man arrived at Gunnedah Landfill he did not have a consignment number.
The EPA has previously provided education materials and assistance on the use of the Waste Locate App to the operator, but ongoing allegedly failure to comply with the regulation and use the tracking system has resulted in a $750 fine.
EPA Manager Regional Operations Lindsay Fulloon said it was important all waste, and especially asbestos waste, was managed and disposed of legally.
“To protect the community and the environment waste must end up at a licensed landfill and be tracked all the way from loading to disposal to ensure it is dealt with safely and legally,” Mr Fulloon said.
