Weak Premier and his government abandon Tasmanians on power bills

Tasmanian Labor

Proving that helping Tasmanians
tackle unprecedented cost of living pressure is not on his radar, Premier
Jeremy Rockliff and his government have voted down a critical Bill to cap power
prices.

Mr Rockliff will recklessly push
ahead with his government’s approval of a plan which will see an appalling 12
per cent power bill increase imposed on every Tasmanian family and business.

Mr Rockliff and his Energy Minister
Guy Barnett are passionately opposed to sparing Tasmanian families from
unacceptable bill shock.

It is unacceptable that Mr Rockliff
is supporting not only the move to impose historic cost of living increases but
Mr Barnett’s farcical attempts to rewrite history.

This was the Liberal Government’s
own policy at the election in 2018 to achieve the ‘Lowest Regulated Energy
Prices in the Nation’.

They backflipped on that promise
and today stamped their approval on unparalleled bill shock.

Under Mr Rockliff’s weak leadership and with his inability to get the basics right, he has now left Tasmanian families to face terrible choices they are having to make between heating and eating.
