Wear Orange Wednesday 18 May

Jacquie Petrusma,Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management

On Wear Orange Wednesday or WOW Day, I want to gratefully thank all of our outstanding SES volunteers and staff who make an outstanding and invaluable contribution to Tasmania each and every day saving lives and protecting communities.

National Volunteer Week celebrates and acknowledges the generous contributions of our volunteers, with WOW Day specifically recognising our emergency services volunteers who generously give up their time to support the community, particularly in great times of need such as floods, storms, road accidents, and supporting councils, police and other emergency services.

Tasmanian SES volunteers have spent in excess of 11,700 hours responding to a range of natural disasters and incidents in the last year, helping to keep Tasmanians safe.

The diligence and bravery of Tasmania’s magnificent State Emergency Service and Tasmanian Fire Service volunteers is to be truly commended.

So again, a big thank you to all of our outstanding volunteers whose year round community spirit and sacrifice is greatly appreciated and applauded.
