Tasmanian Primary and Year 11 and 12 students will be welcomed back the classroom tomorrow.
I would like to thank everyone including parents and teachers for their commitment to learning during the many challenges of COVID-19.
The Government has adopted a staged approach to returning to classrooms, to ensure we can fully monitor this transition and manage the movement of people across our communities.
For this reason it is important that year 7-10 students do not return to school ahead of June 9th unless they cannot be supervised or supported to learn from home.
The health, safety and wellbeing of all Tasmanian students has always been the Government’s number one priority as we face the many challenges of COVID-19 together.
While public health advice has always been that school sites are safe it is important that we do not become complacent.
Health and safety measures in place include:
· Strict handwashing and hygiene protocols;
· Support for schools to access liquid soap and hand sanitiser;
· Increased cleaning;
· Cancellation of gatherings (like assemblies, trips, and interschool activities); and
· Management of drop off and pick up zones to support physical distancing
A lot of work has been undertaken to ensure no students will be disadvantaged as a result of this pandemic. Additional support will be available to students who need it.
I know school staff are excited to see students back to the classroom, and I would like to again thank all school staff and parents who have worked tirelessly to support student learning and wellbeing.
