Wesburn Park Master Plan adopted

The Wesburn Park Master Plan was adopted by Council last week, setting out the strategic direction for Wesburn Park following extensive community consultation.

More than 750 comments on the draft master plan were received during the community engagement period in 2021, with other touch points including drop-in sessions and meetings with key stakeholders also all contributing to the final plan.

Yarra Ranges Mayor and O’Shannassy Ward Councillor, Jim Child, said that the much-loved Wesburn Park had been in need of a future plan for some time.

“We know that Wesburn Park is a highly-valued space by our local community, given it caters for a range of sport, physical and recreational activity,” Cr Child said.

“What it’s been missing from a strategic point of view is a future plan to maximise its potential for both community and visitor use.”

“Having a Master Plan now gives us a much better chance of attracting funding from different levels of government to support the projects identified within the plan.”

“I’d like to sincerely thank everyone who took the time to read over the draft and provide feedback into the plan, we had a fantastic response and I’m really looking forward to seeing it being rolled out over the coming years.”

The community consultation period led to a number of changes from the draft plan to the final plan, including:

  • The removal of ‘possible gating at night’ of the park, which would be reliant on user groups to facilitate.
  • Removal of the new community building at the SES location, following discussions with the Gem Club that identified an opportunity for potential relocation to another site.
  • Amendments to car parking following discussions with Melbourne Water.
  • A two-lane cricket net has been added.
  • Oval upgrades to the fence, ground and playing surface at oval no. 1.
  • A post and rail fence around the equestrian leased area has been added.
  • Trails to the north of the equestrian lease area have been removed.
  • Additional infrastructure for the dog off lead area including barrier fencing and planting
