Western Australia coronovirus update as at 31 May 2021

The Department of Health has reported one new case of COVID-19 overnight in WA.

The man, in his 50s, recently returned from overseas and is in hotel quarantine.

The State’s total is now 1018.

WA Health is monitoring three active cases of COVID-19 ­– 1006 people have recovered from the virus in WA.

Yesterday, 688 people were swabbed at WA Health COVID clinics with a further 102 at private clinics.

To date, 96 cases of variant strains have been detected in Western Australia – 53 of the B.1.1.7 strain, 15 of the B.1.351 strain, 27 of the B.1.617 strain (Indian variant) and one of the P1 variant (Brazilian variant).**

There have been 1,192,695 COVID-19 tests performed in WA. Of those, 152,568 were from regional WA.

The State Government has issued advice for travellers who have recently returned from Victoria, and they are reminded to continue to monitor the Vic Health website for updated exposure locations.
