Western Australia’s First Private Outpatient Ketamine Infusion Clinic for Pain Management

The Anodyne Centre

Ketamine is being heralded as a potential new strategy in the management of complex and difficult to treat conditions – and the establishment of Perth’s first private outpatient ketamine infusion clinic suggests we’re only just beginning to exercise its potential in Western Australia.

With the increased demand for integrative approaches to pain management and emerging evidence about the use of ketamine to treat depression, The Anodyne Centre is leading the way in establishing this progressive medical treatment.

“As part of our promise to provide patients with innovative and evidence-based care, we are pleased to be offering this progressive medical treatment. Ketamine is being used in the treatment of various pain conditions, including neuropathic pain, migraines, fibromyalgia/complex widespread pain disorders, CRPS, phantom limb pain and reduction of harmful opioid medication use. But particularly exciting is its application to the management of treatment resistant depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.” – Statement from Dr Vincenzo Mondello

Prior to any infusions, patients will be assessed in our Screening Clinic to determine suitability for treatment. This will involve the patient completing a series of questionnaires, blood tests, ECG and a medical review with our team. If deemed suitable, patients will then be booked for a treatment course.

Treatment varies depending on the condition: Ketamine infusions for mood disorders are completed as an outpatient as a series of 4-6 treatments over a 2 week period; Ketamine infusions for pain management can be completed as an outpatient as a series of 6-10 treatments over a 2 week period. Pending a positive result to either treatment, patients can then go on a maintenance regimen. Maintenance varies from patient to patient, but can be a single infusion every month. Treatment is continuously monitored by trained medical and nursing staff.

The Anodyne Centre is made up of a diverse group of experienced medical professionals who provide a range of services to help manage pain, including medical treatments, perioperative treatment planning, allied health, mental health, case management and interventional pain procedures. Our combined expertise in psychiatry and pain means we can also offer unique services in the area of interventional psychiatry. Infusion therapies, stellate ganglion blocks, and transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy are just a few of these emerging and exciting treatments.
