The Local Government Election occurred on Saturday 4 December, so what happens next?

Counting

Counting has commenced to determine the Mayor and 8 Councillors for the next term.

Counting is being undertaken by the NSW Electoral Commission.

Postal vote returns

Completed postal votes must be received before 6pm Friday 17 December.

Preference distribution

The above counting is of First Preference Votes.

Once this is completed, the preferences will be allocated.

This distribution of preferences is scheduled to commence on 20 December for the Mayoral contest and 22 December for the Councillor election.

The exact timing can be found on the Distribution of preferences schedule.

Declaration of results

The results will be declared as they are confirmed from Tuesday 21 December onwards.
