What’s plan, Minister Barnett? 30 January 2024

With the East Devonport Medical Centre set to close on Friday, the Rockliff Government must outline its plan to ensure the community has access to a GP.

Health Minister Guy Barnett has hosted three roundtables with the East Devonport community to find a solution, yet no plans to keep the centre open have been forthcoming.

Minister Barnett needs to ensure that community members aren’t waiting weeks to see a GP and outline what transport options are available when the centre closes.

It has been three months since the East Devonport Medical Centre announced its closure and the State Government shouldn’t be waiting until the eleventh hour to provide an update to the community.

Frankly, the East Devonport community deserve better and they deserve to know what is going on.

Minister Barnett has had since November to work constructively with the community, local government and his federal colleagues to find a solution.

As the Minister responsible, he needs to stop passing the buck and act.

Without a solution, further strain will be placed on our health system, which is already buckling under pressure as the latest health dashboard data clearly shows.
