What’s Rockliff’s next belly flop going to be? 01 March 2024

Tas Labor

Jeremy Rockliff has shown Tasmanians they can’t believe anything that comes out of his mouth.

The Liberal election campaign has been about the Premier licking his finger and seeing which way the wind is blowing.

He has shuffled from outright stealing of Labor policies to complete capitulations that threaten business confidence and our economy.

So far, these include:

  • “Stopping” the UTAS move
  • Tourism tax
  • Stadium ‘cap’
  • Antique gun laws
  • Salmon retreat
  • Forestry folly

These follow the pre-election backdowns and broken promises including:

  • Forced council mergers
  • No new taxes (tourism tax, salmon tax, fire tax, the bin tax; point of consumption tax)
  • Cap power prices
  • Leaving the National Electricity Market
  • Building the North West Transmission Development in full
  • Building Marinus in full
  • Building the Spirits in Tasmania

The Premier is no doubt climbing the stairs to the 10 metre board for another bellyflop today – which sector will he blindside next?
