Stage 2 of Whittlesea Swim Centre refurbishment officially kicked off on 1 November as swimmers returned to the pool for the summer season.
The centre is undergoing a $1.163 million upgrade as part of a joint State Government and Council funded project.
The first stage saw the upgrade of change rooms, the kiosk and paths to ensure the centre was fully accessible.
The second stage will include an accessible change rooms, splash pad, more synthetic turf around picnic areas, more trees and shade sails.
At the official sod turn, Mayor Lawrie Cox said the project would enhance experience for pool users and ensure the pool stayed a much-loved feature of the Whittlesea community into the future.
“Important projects like these would not be possible without the support of the State Government, particularly the Growing Suburbs Fund,” he said.
“We have been successful so far receiving $23.1 million for 18 projects from this fund for projects around the City of Whittlesea; with all funding matched by the City of Whittlesea.”
The project has been jointly funded:
- $312,000 from the Growing Suburbs Fund
- $250,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria
- $601,000 from City of Whittlesea
Work on the refurbishment, including the splash pad, will continue throughout the summer season.
“While swimmers will be able to enjoy the pool, some areas of the centre will be fenced off while work continues,” Cr Cox said.
