Will Rockliff support major detractor for party President? 02 August 2023

Unelected Premier Jeremy Rockliff faces yet another test of his leadership this weekend with the Liberal Party’s state council to decide the party’s new state President.

One candidate for Saturday’s vote is Clarence Mayor Brendan Blomeley, who was recently forced by the Liberals State Director Peter Coulston to remove his campaign pitch video from the internet.

In the video* Mr Blomeley warned that the party was at a crossroads, in need of “capable, professional leadership” and made it clear he did not support Rockliff’s position on the Voice or transgender rights.

Since inheriting the Liberal leadership, Rockliff has managed to lose two MPs from his party room, had numerous high-level staffers quit and seen a major branch of the Liberal Party put into recess because its members walked out.

Under Rockliff’s weak leadership his MPs openly talk about crossing the floor against him.

Will Mr Rockliff now back Brendan Blomeley – one of his biggest critics – for Liberal Party President?
