Woman charged after 2.5kg ‘ice’ and $300,000 cash seized in Kingsford

A woman will face court today after being charged by NSW Police Force over the importation of $1.9 million of ice, which was detected by Australian Border Force (ABF) officers in an air cargo consignment from the USA.

On 30 April 2019, ABF officers located a total of 2.52kg of methylamphetamine (ice) concealed within a parcel containing a ceramic vase.

ABF officers identified and examined the parcel, which led to a presumptive test returning positive results for methylamphetamine.

The ice has an estimated potential street value of almost $1.9 million.

The matter was referred to detectives from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command, who established Strike Force Twickenham to investigate the importation.

Following inquiries, Eastern Beaches detectives arrested a 40-year-old woman on Gardners Road, Kingsford, just after 11.30am yesterday (Tuesday 21 May 2019).

She was taken to Maroubra Police Station and charged with import commercial quantity of border-controlled drug.

Shortly after the arrest, investigators, assisted by Operation Odin, executed a search warrant at a home at Kingsford, where they located $300,000 cash, electronic storage devices, and documentation.

The woman was refused bail to appear at Waverley Local Court today (Wednesday 22 May 2019).

Investigations are continuing.
