A woman has died after a crash in the state’s Alpine region yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the Snowy Mountains Highway 20km south-east of Talbingo, about 2pm (Monday 11 April 2022), after reports of a crash involving a truck and a car.
Officers attached to Riverina Police District arrived and found a northbound Toyota Corolla and a southbound prime mover collided head-on in the northbound lanes, before the truck travelled over an embankment.
The driver of the car, a 48-year-old Sydney woman, died at the scene.
The woman’s only passenger, an 11-year-old boy, was trapped for a short time before being freed by Fire and Rescue NSW. He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for arm injuries before being flown to hospital where he’s believed to be in a stable condition.
The male driver of the heavy vehicle, also aged 48, was taken to hospital to be checked and undergo mandatory testing.
A crime scene was established with officers from the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) to examine the scene.
