Construction has started on a major upgrade of Victoria Park Primary School which will provide for future student enrolments in the growing inner city area.
Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery and Victoria Park MLA Ben Wyatt were at the site today where the new $7.1 million two-storey block will be built. Construction is expected to be completed in June 2021.
The block will include five general learning classrooms, an activity area and toilets on the ground floor with staff parking beneath the building.
The first floor will have five classrooms for kindergarten and pre-primary students, an activity area and an innovative outdoor playground on the rooftop.
The new classrooms will provide permanent accommodation for 260 students.
Existing transportable classrooms will be removed once construction is completed to allow the oval to be redeveloped.
Crothers Construction Pty Ltd will build the two-storey block which will create about 250 jobs.
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
“I’m pleased that construction is starting on this exciting upgrade for Victoria Park Primary School which sits on a very small site and has grown considerably since it was established in 1894.
“We’re committed to providing a high-quality education for children with the best possible learning facilities.
“The fantastic new classrooms will accommodate for students now and in the years to come.
“The creation of about 250 jobs on this project is a great boost for local workers and the economy.”

“As all locals know, Victoria Park Primary School is on a very small site and the challenge of the increasing number of children has made it very difficult to accommodate them all.
