Working constructively with Tasmania’s racing industry

Jane Howlett,Minister for Sport and Recreation

The Tasmanian Liberal Government iscommitted to supporting the state’s racing industry.

Tasracing will deliver our commitment for an average annual stakes increase of four per cent and has flagged a significant uplift in stakes in the 2021-22 financial year.

Through the Point of Consumption Tax the Government will make an estimated $4 million per year available for the industry when the revenue is received.

Labor’s David O’Byrne is once again using the racing industry as a political means to bolster his leadership ambitions.

Tasmanians have not forgotten that it was David O’Byrne and the Labor Government that sold the TOTE, setting the industry back years.

Mr O’Byrne is yet to explain to Tasmanianshow a 35 per cent increase in stakes could be afforded.

As Minister for Racing, I will continue to work actively and constructively with all three racing codes following the welcome resumption of racing in Tasmania.
