The hugely successful community-building and economy-boosting Works for Queensland program is on track to support 21,000 regional jobs.
Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the first two rounds of Works for Queensland have already supported or created more than 16,400 jobs for regional Queenslanders, with thousands more on the way.
“The Palaszczuk Government’s $600 million Works for Queensland program is a runaway success,” he said.
“Works for Queensland is helping councils build infrastructure and improve liveability for residents while supporting thousands of jobs and boosting local economies.
“Councils report that Works for Queensland has already supported 16,400 jobs and helped to deliver 1,350 projects in regional communities.
“The Heatley Park upgrade in Townsville, improvements at the Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct and the augmented reality experience ‘Towers Hill in WWII’ in Charters Towers are just some of the success stories.”
Mr Hinchliffe said with the recent release of $200 million in third round funding, Councils are estimating a further 4,676 jobs will be created or supported across another 500 projects in regional Queensland.
Works for Queensland is designed to help councils deliver new minor infrastructure or improve the condition of existing assets such as parks and playgrounds, swimming pools and water play areas, footpaths, roads, sewers, community and sports facilities and renewable energy initiatives.
