WorkSafe ACT issues 11 safety notices in Ginninderry

Following a routine compliance inspection in Ginninderry late last week, WorkSafe ACT has now issued 10 improvement notices and one prohibition notice at residential construction sites after finding safety breaches including fall from height risks due to unsafe scaffolding, poor housekeeping, site security and signage issues and electrical safety concerns.

Jacqueline Agius, Work Health and Safety Commissioner, said the compliance activity in Ginninderry was part of Operation Safe Prospect, WorkSafe ACT’s ongoing campaign to improve safety standards in the residential construction industry.

“Over the past few months, our inspectors have been visiting greenfield sites across Canberra to make sure safety measures are being followed in residential construction, Ms Agius said.

“We want to make sure people are working in safe conditions, especially in higher-risk industries like construction.

“During National Safe Work Month, but also year round, our inspectors are working with this industry to highlight the importance of workplace safety.

“Making sure everyone goes home safely at the end of the day is our priority, and we will continue to visit sites and issue notices to help regulate safety in this industry.”
