Wrong way after leaving run way

Fawkner Highway Patrol officers and the Australian Federal Police have conducted a joint operation at Melbourne airport today as part of Operation Regal.

The joint operation was conducted between 9am and 3pm.

A total of 1200 people were breath tested and 2000 cars were scanned using automatic number plate recognition

12 penalty notices were issued for unregistered cars, using mobile phones and not wearing a seat belt.

A 29-year-old man from Yarraville was detected leaving the car park via the entry ramp.

He was subsequently breath tested and returned a preliminary breath test of .244.

He will be summonsed to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court at a later date.

Acting Senior Sergeant Dean Pickering from Fawkner Highway Patrol said “We have a great relationship and work together with the AFP on a daily basis.

It was great to join up for some significant activity over Operation Regal.

As for our drunk driver detected, I am extremely happy we removed this person from the road. He couldn’t even find the exit gate; it could have been a bad result if he attempted to drive any further.”

This forms part of Operation Regal, a four day high visibility road policing operation over the Queen’s birthday long weekend.

The state-wide operation commenced on Friday, 7 June and will focus on impaired driving, increased traffic on rural roads, towing trailers and caravans, and trail bike riding in state forests and parks.

Enforcement activities will vary across the state with police focusing on traffic corridors that link metropolitan areas to popular holiday destinations including the high country (ski fields), Grampians and Lakes regions.

Operation Regal will run for four days from 12.01am Friday 7 June to 11.59pm Monday 10 June 2019.
