Wyndham celebrates Citizen and young Citizen of Year

Wyndham City is thrilled to announce the winners of the 2024 Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards.

Presenting the awards, Wyndham City’s Mayor, Cr Jennie Barrera, said the two awards recognised the outstanding contributions of two special Wyndham City residents who, through their hard work and dedication, have significantly contributed to our community

“These individuals help make Wyndham a better place. They offer outstanding service each day and enable our communities to be stronger because of their extraordinary efforts,” Cr Barrera said.

Congratulations Melba Waugh – Citizen of the Year 2024

“Melba has been a consistent and passionate leader of the Filipino and multicultural communities in Wyndham and is passionate about giving back to the Wyndham community where she and her family reside,” Cr Barrera said.

“Melba co-founded ACMEi, the Australian Council for Multicultural Entrepreneurs Inc, which was born in Werribee in 2011 and incorporated in Melbourne in 2012. ACMEi has several members who own/operate businesses from the Wyndham area.”

“Her leadership and professionalism in her workplace and also the community organisations she has been involved with has inspired many among the Filipino and multicultural communities in Wyndham.”

“She is looked up to as a role model and an approachable multi-awarded community leader and successful business woman.”

Congratulations Krushnadevsinh Ravalji (Kano) – Young Citizen of the Year 2024

“Kano’s contributions have led to youth empowerment, better mental health, inclusivity, and leadership inspiration in the Wyndham community,” Cr Barrera said.

“As the youngest member of the Western Metropolitan Partnership, Kano has been a strong advocate for youth, bringing his lived experiences and advocacy to the forefront, ensuring that young people’s voices are heard and acted upon.”

“Kano’s impact on the Wyndham community over the past few years through the various hats he wears, demonstrates a commitment to youth advocacy, mental health, diversity, and community wellbeing.”
