The Rockliff Liberal Government is getting on with the Youth Jobs Strategy that will help more young Tasmanians to put their skills to work and build a life in our State.
Minister for Skills, Training and Workforce Growth, Felix Ellis, said young Tasmanians deserve the smoothest possible pathway from school into the world of work.
“The Youth Jobs Strategy will examine how we can better support young people as they transition from school to work, or into further education and training,” Minister Ellis said.
“We expect it will deliver improved youth engagement in employment by ensuring there is no wrong door for a young person in Tasmania to find the help and support they need to get into work.”
Minister Ellis said later this year all Tasmanians, including industry and community organisations, will get the opportunity to participate in the development of the Strategy.
He said this would include forums such as the Youth Employment Community of Practice for service organisations, industry forums, and regional conversations through the local Jobs Hubs.
“We will provide $180,000 from internal Jobs Tasmania resources to support the strategy development, to ensure we have the right research, data analysis, evaluation and consultation processes resourced as part of this work,” Minister Ellis said.
“Excitingly, as part of this work and following advice from Jobs Tasmania, we will be piloting a youth facilitator in the North West, who will help us to build an evidenced-based approach to better support and enable youth jobs in a regional market.”
The final strategy is expected to be released in March next year.
“We are backing in the industries doing the heavy lifting in our economy, especially in the regions,” Minister Ellis said.
“We are always looking at what more we can do to make sure Tasmanians can access the training they need to get their foot in the door.”
