Zuccoli and surrounds Community Hub to become cornerstone for connection

NT Government

Creating community infrastructure which further enhances the lives of Territorians and creates jobs is important to the Territory Government.

Together with the City of Palmerston a new and exciting community asset for the people of Palmerston has taken a major leap forward today.

The Northern Territory Government has granted the City of Palmerston, 47 hectares of community crown land to build the Zuccoli and Surrounds Community Hub. The land is zoned for community purpose with this development fitting the requirements.

The Zuccoli and Community Hub surrounds will be a place for Palmerston residents to come together and enjoy a space that will connect families, friends and the community. The proposed design creates a focal point, offering something for everyone, including walking trails, a dog park, a garden of reflection, a pump track and playground.

The land grant also includes the natural environment of Mitchell Creek. Council will maintain this important and valuable natural resource and respects the home it provides for numerous species of plants and animals. It is Council’s ambition to ensure the construction and development in the area complements the landscape and preserves the biodiversity of the area.

A masterplan has been developed to guide the design of the proposed Zuccoli and Surrounds Community Hub. The City of Palmerston will commence community consultation to seek feedback.

The development will be split into stages with the first stage to be completed this year, with an already committed regional ‘off-leash’ dog park worth $350,000. All other elements will be prioritised in stages following consultation.

Key proposed features of the project will include:

  • walking trails
  • skate park
  • pump track
  • playground
  • boutique children’s library
  • community event space
  • community centre; and
  • garden of reflection.
