2012-012-23 NT Covid update

The Northern Territory has recorded 10 new cases of COVID-19.

Five cases are from Tennant Creek and are linked to the NT outbreak, bringing the total number of cases to 131.

The remaining cases are all from interstate and are not connected to the NT outbreak. They arrived on flights from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide and are in isolation at home or at the Centre for National Resilience (CNR).

It is important all people in the NT check the COVID-19 website to review the list of NT public exposure sites. The website will list any flights that entered the NT where passengers are considered low risk contacts.

Low risk contacts are asked to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms for 14 days from the day of travel. If symptoms develop, contacts must self-quarantine at home or a suitable place of accommodation, get tested for COVID-19 and remain in quarantine until a negative result is received.

There are currently 11 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including one in ICU.

Lockout for Tennant Creek

Tennant Creek will transition from a lockdown to a lockout immediately until 5pm on Wednesday, 29 December, 2021.

Under a lockout, fully vaccinated residents are able to live normally within the lockout area. Everyone must wear a mask outside of their place of residence.

People who are fully vaccinated and have returned a negative Rapid Antigen Test are able to exit the lockout area. They must continue to wear a mask and are not permitted to enter an exclusion zone for the next seven days, until 5pm Wednesday, 29 December, 2021. Essential workers may enter an exclusion zone, but must wear a mask and complete a daily Rapid Antigen Test.

Unvaccinated residents, including those people who have received only their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, must stay at home during a lockout period and are only permitted to leave for the following five reasons:

  1. Medical treatment, including COVID testing or vaccination
  2. For essential goods and services, like groceries, power tokens and medications
  3. For work that is considered essential and can’t be done at home
  4. For one hour of outdoor exercise a day within 5 km from your home with one other person or people from your house
  5. To provide care and support to a family member or person who cannot support themselves.
