2022 Warrnambool Australia Day Award nominations now open

Nominations for the 2022 Warrnambool Australia Day Awards are now open.

Categories include Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year (aged 16-30), Community Event of the Year and Local Achiever.

As the 2015 Warrnambool Citizen of the Year and the 2017 Australian Local Hero, Warrnambool Mayor Cr Vicki Jellie said that while awards are appreciated by the recipients, they are also an opportunity for the broader community to learn more about their fellow citizens.

“People don’t do the things that they do because they are looking for recognition, they do them because they’re passionate and because they care,” she said.

“But as a community, the Australia Day Awards are a way for us to get to know some of the unsung heroes in our city, working away behind the scenes to enrich the lives of others.

“While we have endured another difficult year under the shadow of COVID-19, I know that there a people who have been quietly going about the business of making their community a better place.

“So I’d invite everyone to stop for a moment, and think about someone you know whose community spirit and selfless actions make you feel proud.

“You know what a great job they’re doing, so please take a few minutes to submit a nomination so that as a city, we can celebrate their achievements together.”

Nominations close on Friday 19 November, 2021.
