The future is looking a whole lot brighter for young children in Kilmore with work starting on the redevelopment of the Marie Williams Kindergarten and Kilmore Maternal and Child Health Centre.
Member for Northern Victoria the Hon. Jaclyn Symes MP met with Mitchell Shire Mayor Cr Rhonda Sanderson to inspect the site on Thursday 29 July.
Works have begun on expanding the existing Marie Williams Kindergarten and the Kilmore Maternal and Child Health Centre into an integrated family and children’s centre ready for the roll out five hours of funded sessional three-year-old kindergarten in 2022.
The project will see an extra two early learning rooms created, existing rooms upgraded and expanded, and provide an additional 58 kindergarten places. It will also provide better links between the kindergarten, maternal and child health, immunisation, and other support services.
Without this upgrade, an estimated 100 children would be unable to access early learning opportunities in Kilmore by 2024. With the number of children aged five forecast to grow 50 per cent by 2030, more than 1000 individual children will directly benefit from this facility during the first five years of operation.
This integrated facility will have capacity to provide community group sessions such as playgroups, new parents’ groups and other vital community support services and activities.
The $3.36 million upgrade is thanks to $1.86 million from the Victorian Government’s Building Blocks fund, $1.1 million from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund and more than $394,000 from Mitchell Shire Council.
