Parkes Shire Council has secured $4,034,244 in NSW Government funding under round 9 of the Resources for Regions grant program for six community and infrastructure projects.
Six grant projects across the Parkes Shire were announced as part of the Resources for Regions grant program that funds infrastructure projects and community programs to address the diverse needs of mining communities across regional New South Wales. All funded projects must demonstrate they meet the objectives of the program which include providing economic opportunities, improved amenity and positive social outcomes.
The projects receiving grant funding are:
- $2,684,244 to Mitigate flooding in the Parkes CBD. This project will involve providing suitable infrastructure to reduce stormwater travelling to the CBD area, lessening the level of localised flooding of local businesses and residences in the area.
- $1,000,000 for critical infrastructure required to facilitate the release of Stage 1 of the Rose Street residential development. This project will provide thirty-one new lots on completion, with several lots reserved for affordable housing for first-home buyers.
- $100,000 to develop a masterplan to reimage over fifty green spaces in Parkes township. The plan will guide the development of these spaces, encouraging a sustainable and inclusive roadmap for green recreation within the town.
- 150,000 to undertake an Entertainment Centre Feasibility Study. This study will align the Shire’s desires with a feasible proposal and preliminary concept design of an entertainment centre appropriate for the needs of Parkes. The study will inform the future direction and opportunity for a dedicated community entertainment and conference facility.
- $50,000 to develop a business case for ‘Spicer Oval Caravan Park redevelopment options’. Caravan parks often play a role in housing shortages in regional centres. This project will include an evaluation of potential future uses of the caravan park ensuring Parkes has appropriate short and long-term accommodation options.
- $50,000 to undertake a future use plan for the Carrington Hotel. The project will explore business planning and development options that will set the future direction of the facility to maximise community benefit for Peak Hill residents and the wider community.

Work has already commenced on these projects, with Council set to complete all projects over the next three years.
