Hobsons Bay City Council has adopted a policy that ensures fairness is embedded in all its decisions and activities.

A Fair Hobsons Bay for All 2024-28 is Council’s updated integrated social policy that focuses on groups in the community at higher risk of social disadvantage. It was approved by Council at its meeting on December 12, and replaces the previous version, which was endorsed in 2019.

The updated policy aims to continue breaking down the barriers experienced by different sections of the community. That includes children, young people, older people, people with a disability and carers, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, First Nations people, women and girls, LGBTQIA+ and gender diverse communities, and people in low-income households.

The final policy included changes made because of community consultation, held in September and October. This included incorporating carers into the ‘people with a disability’ group to acknowledge the critical role they play in Hobsons Bay, and clarifying and strengthening how Council’s Disability Action Plan has been incorporated within A Fair Hobsons Bay for All 2024-28.

Quotes attributable to Mayor of Hobsons Bay, Cr Matt Tyler:

“This policy builds on the achievements of the previous version and will serve as a foundation document to promote fairness and equity in Hobsons Bay.

“This policy will support practical actions that make sure everyone in our community, no matter their circumstances or background, is getting a fair go.”
