A Year of Hope, Connection & Beginnings at Peninsula Support Hub
REDCLIFFE, QLD – The Salvation Army is celebrating a milestone of hope and transformation as the Peninsula Support Hub marks its first year of operation.
Over the past 12 months, the Hub in Redcliffe has become a place where people facing homelessness, housing stress and hardship can find not only practical assistance, but also encouragement, connection and a pathway forward. Through compassion, collaboration and community support, the Hub has helped hundreds of local individuals and families navigate challenging circumstances and move towards greater stability.
Over the past six months of 2026 alone, the Hub supported 386 individuals and families through 661 points of assistance, highlighting both the growing demand for support and the importance of having accessible services available within the community.
Working alongside Salvation Army teams including chaplaincy and local partner organisations, especially Breakfast Club onsite, the Hub provides a welcoming environment where people can access housing support, food and essential items, referrals to specialist services, and emotional encouragement during difficult times.
During the January to June 2026 reporting period:
- 41 individuals and families achieved positive housing outcomes, including access to crisis accommodation, supported accommodation, youth accommodation and private rentals.
- The team completed 54 referrals to alternative housing providers and delivered 105 housing-related assistance responses to 67 people experiencing housing distress.
- A further 103 community members received 216 additional support services, including assistance with financial challenges, physical health, legal matters and mental wellbeing.
While housing support remains the Hub’s most significant area of need, the outcomes achieved over the past year demonstrate that with the right support, people can overcome barriers and create positive change in their lives.
For many, the Hub has been more than a service. It has been a source of hope at a time when hope was difficult to find.
One community member, who sought support while addressing alcohol dependency and housing challenges, reflected on their journey:
” It’s really hard on your own, you guys definitely made the process a lot easier. Now I am healthier and that’s the biggest change. I am six months sober, I quit smoking and I’ve been approved for a housing transfer.”
Stories like this highlight the power of practical assistance combined with genuine care and human connection.
The Peninsula Support Hub continues to work closely with a broad network of services and community organisations, helping reduce barriers to support and strengthen the local response to homelessness across the Moreton Bay region.
Beena Saju, Regional Manager for The Salvation Army Homelessness Services, said –
“Over the past 12 months, we’ve seen incredible resilience, courage and determination from the people who have walked through our doors. Every housing outcome, every connection to support, and every positive step forward represents a person or family moving closer to stability and hope.”
“The work of the Peninsula Support Hub is more vital than ever. The impact we’ve seen shows that early intervention, practical support and genuine human connection can make a life-changing difference. While the need continues to grow, these outcomes remind us that when communities, services and governments work together, we can help create pathways to safe, secure and affordable housing for everyone.”
As the Peninsula Support Hub celebrates its first anniversary, The Salvation Army extends its thanks to the staff, volunteers, partners and supporters whose generosity, commitment and compassion have helped make the service a success.
Together, they are helping build a stronger, more connected community where people facing hardship can find support, dignity and the opportunity for a brighter future.
