NT Government

Northern Territory health professionals have been named recipients at the 2022 Northern Territory Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner Worker and Practitioner Excellence Awards.

The awards are held annually to recognise and acknowledge the significant contribution these professional groups make to their families, communities and to the healthcare system in the NT.

All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers and practitioners employed in the Northern Territory were eligible for nomination.

Students studying qualifications from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Training Package were eligible for nomination in the Student Award category.

The awards are held in partnership with the Australian Government Department of Health, NT Health, Darwin Sunrise Rotary Club, United Workers Union, Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory and the National Association of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners.

Quotes attributed to Chief Minister and Minister for Health, Natasha Fyles:

“Congratulations this year’s winners. These awards acknowledge the outstanding contribution made by our highly valued Aboriginal health worker and Aboriginal health practitioner workforces within the past 12 months.

“Aboriginal health workers and Aboriginal health practitioners play a vital role in the delivery of health services across the NT to clients in urban, regional and remote areas. They are often the first point of contact for people seeking health services, and provide a conduit between traditional health and western medical services.”
