All persons entering South Australia are required to self-quarantine for 14 days. Essential Travellers are exempt. There is no application process for exemptions and no permit system. A self-assessment process applies. Persons entering South Australia may be stopped by police at checkpoints and Essential Travellers will be required to provide evidence of their status. If they are unable to provide evidence they will be directed to self-quarantine.
‘Essential travellers’ include:
* National and state security and governance
* Health services
* Essential medical treatment
* Transport and freight services
* Skills critical to maintaining key industries or businesses
* Emergency Services workers
* Cross border community members
* Passing through (travellers will need to make their own enquiries about entry into their final state destination)
* Compassionate grounds
To reiterate, you do not need to apply for an exemption if you fit within one or more the above criteria in the above list. Police at the checkpoints will make the determination at the time.
It is crucial that we all work together to ensure we maintain social distancing guidelines and comply with the directions to quarantine.
If we cooperate we can slow the rate of infection to “flatten the curve” and protect those vulnerable within our community by reducing the number of cases experienced by our health services.
