Northern Territory Police responded to a small aircraft crash on Groote Eylandt yesterday afternoon.
At 2pm, police received reports of an aircraft that crashed upon making an emergency landing in a dirt paddock between Rowell Highway and a nearby access road.
There were five passengers and one pilot on board. Four passengers have been taken to local clinics in serious conditions.
NT Worksafe has been notified and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) have carriage of investigating the circumstances of the crash. NT Police will continue to work with ATSB during the investigation.
Northern Territory Police would like to thank members of the public who assisted at the scene of the crash.
