Local football, netball, cricket and bowls clubs will be the big winners from the announcement today that Alfredton Recreation Reserve will undergo a major upgrade of sporting facilities.
New funding by the Victorian Government and City of Ballarat will transform the Recreation Reserve and make it more accessible for players and the public.
The new additions will include female-friendly change rooms and amenities, an undercover viewing area, kitchen, public toilets, cricket nets and electronic scoreboard.
Carparking, fencing, umpire change rooms and the ticket box entrance also will be improved.
The new funding will benefit the key stakeholder groups, Ballarat Football Netball Club, the Ballarat Memorial Bowls Club and the Ballarat Redan Cricket Club.
Funding of $3.7 million will be provided by the Victorian Government and $1.1 million by the City of Ballarat for the entire projects.
The City of Ballarat will separately fund the netball change rooms and also the resurfacing upgrade of the number two oval.
“The strong population growth in Alfredton and west Ballarat has made these improvements absolutely vital for our community,” the Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor, said.
“There is overwhelming demand for modern, high-quality, sporting facilities. The massive increase in female participation in sport, particularly in football, is inspiring – and finally we will now have female-friendly change rooms at Alfredton.
“On behalf of the City of Ballarat I thank the Victorian Government for their investment in this major project.
“It will be a great occasion when these changes are completed and we can all enjoy playing and watching sport again in this magnificent setting.”
