Andrews hands control of firefighter registration to union management

The Andrews Labor Government keeps delivering on the secret deal between Daniel Andrews and Peter Marshall, State Secretary of the United Firefighters Union.

The latest impact of Daniel Andrews’ secret deal with Peter Marshall, which is subject to current investigation at IBAC, gives union management the power to pick and choose who they want as firefighters through the creation of the Victorian Professional Career Firefighters Registration Board (VPCFRB).

The formal process to select a suitable candidate will be ignored if union boss Marshall vetos applicants via his sham VPCFRB process if they don’t conform to his views.

Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Brad Battin, said the latest deal between the Premier and Marshall is cause for grave concern.

“It is an outrage that Daniel Andrews is allowing a union boss to dictate who can and can’t be a firefighter,” Mr Battin said.

“I am speaking to current UFU members who are worried that their careers will be ruined if they dare to disagree with their union’s boss.

“Firefighters should be selected based purely on skills and ability, not on if they toe the union line.”
