Appeal for information over aggravated break and enter – Tamworth

Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted during a break and enter in the state’s northeast at the weekend.

About 2.45am yesterday (Sunday 15 January 2024), emergency services were called to a home on Margaret Street, Tamworth, after a man was assaulted in his home.

Police were told the occupant – a 82-year-old man – was woken by a man shining a torch at him demanding cash.

The man grabbed the occupants walking stick and struck him multiple times before he fled the location on foot with a mobile phone.

The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and was transported to Tamworth Hospital for treatment of injuries, where he remains.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
