Renowned Australian singer-songwriter Archie Roach is set to headline City of Parramatta Council’s Reconciliation Week festivities with a special performance in Centenary Square on Friday May 31.
Reconciliation Week, which runs from Monday 27 May to Monday 3 June, encourages all Australians to work together to achieve reconciliation by learning about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and building respectful relationships.
“Council is proud to join the national reconciliation effort with its program of activities throughout this week-long event. From heritage walks and interactive installations to a market and live performances, this event celebrates our wonderful Indigenous community,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Andrew Wilson said.
The market will take place in Centenary Square on Friday 31 May from 7am to 8.30pm, and will feature art, clothing and food stalls. Live performances will kick off on the main stage from 4.30pm, with a special evening performance by Archie Roach at 6pm.
“I am really looking forward to performing at the Council’s Reconciliation Week event at Burramatta,” Archie Roach said.
“I have always believed in reconciliation. It’s important for us to come together as Australians so we can be a united front to affect positive change.”
Archie’s career has spanned three decades and his song “Took the Children Away” earned him two ARIAs in 1991 and a Human Rights Achievement Award. During his one-hour performance, Archie will be performing songs from his new album The Concert Collection 2012-2018.
The live music program in Centenary Square will also comprise performances from Indigenous artists DJ NIAN, Maddi Lyn and Evie J Willie.
