ASQA Update 4 August

Ms Saxon Rice, Chief Executive Officer

Saxon Rice, Chief Executive Officer

Welcome to the August edition of the ASQA Update.

As we look at the previous financial year in the rear-view mirror, now is the time we bring together reflections and articulate how to do things more effectively, efficiently, and collaboratively to ensure the best outcomes for the coming year.

ASQA is finalising the 2021-22 Corporate Plan, setting the strategic direction for the next 4 years. This plan reflects the priorities set by Government to achieve our purpose, with a critical focus on best practice regulation to enable and support the sector’s role in economic recovery, which we know is vital to Australia’s future growth and prosperity. Through effective regulation, we are committed to our own continuous improvement, and to supporting ongoing quality in training provision across the VET sector.

Over the last year, we have worked with partners from across the sector to identify the 6 strategic deliverables we need to pursue over the next 4 years to achieve our purpose. This work includes greater collaboration and partnership with the sector; integrating a proportionate regulatory practice; and promoting a culture of self-assurance for training providers with continuous improvement at the core. We have also developed a measurable performance framework so we can track our achievement to ensure accountability and transparency. We will look forward to sharing more about this next month with the launch of our Corporate Plan.

Providers and course owners can also contribute to ASQA’s continuous improvement through the annual survey. The survey is managed by an organisation independent from ASQA and captures your anonymous feedback. Keep a look out for an invitation to participate.

In this Update, I hope you will enjoy learning more about ongoing developments across the sector and here at ASQA – including provider tips and resources, insights from our ongoing data collection and course accreditation updates.

I acknowledge the continued challenges of the impact of COVID-19. Our regulatory strategies and approaches in 2021-22 will build on new approaches applied in 2020-21 and continue to apply risk based proportionate responses working with providers to monitor risks and respond using a range of fit-for purpose tools.

I look forward to the work we will all do over the coming years, so that together we can continue to deliver quality outcomes for students, employers, and the community as part of a world-leading VET system.

Stay safe and well.
