Assault charges in Broadbeach, QLD

Police have charged five men and two boys after a man and a woman were assaulted in Broadbeach on January 8.

At 11.20pm, the man and the woman were sitting on a bench seat on Broadbeach Boulevard when three men walked passed.

The group became involved in an altercation and the three men then left the area.

A short time later, seven men then approached the par and one allegedly produced a knife before and altercation occurred.

It will be further alleged that as a result of the altercation, the man sustained a laceration to his hand and the woman sustained a laceration to her foot.

Both were treated for non-life threatening injures.

Police will also allege that a member of the group then stole the woman’s handbag before fleeing the scene on foot.

Five men from Victoria aged 18 and two boys aged 17 have all been charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm and stealing.

The five men are all due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on March 11.
