ATSB launches latest recruitment round

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has launched its latest recruitment round as it seeks to attract new investigators and safety analysts and researchers to join the national transport safety investigator.

Under the recruitment round, which closes on 12 July, the ATSB has multiple vacancies for transport safety investigators, as well as for a safety analyst and a safety researcher for the agency’s newly-reconstituted safety analysis and research team.

“These are unique opportunities to join a niche group of likeminded professionals dedicated to improving transport safety both domestically and internationally,” said Chief Operating Officer Colin McNamara.

“For the transport safety investigator roles, we are seeking experienced transport professionals with aviation, rail and marine industry experience and a human factors expert.

“As investigators you will lead your own investigations and support your colleagues on others, using your technical skills and industry knowledge to deploy to accident sites, collect and analyse evidence, and develop findings to help drive improvements in safety.”

Mr McNamara noted ATSB transport safety investigators receive formal and on-the-job training, including completing a Graduate qualification in Transport Safety Investigation, and follow a professional development pathway to progress through the specialist employment broadband to take on higher responsibilities and more complex/systemic investigations.

The ATSB is also seeking to bolster its integral safety analysis and research function.
