Australia Day fireworks cancelled

Council has been constantly reviewing options around our Australia Day fireworks and has decided to cancel them.

This is in line with the cancellation of other organised fireworks displays including the State Government and City of Melbourne’s decision to cancel the Docklands fireworks.

The Chinese Precinct Chamber of Commerce has also called for firecrackers not to be released during upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.

With consideration to the recent and ongoing bushfires, community feedback and emergency services staff who have been extremely stretched defending our communities, this is not the year for us to celebrate with fireworks.

Our Australia Day event will still go ahead with music, dancing and recognition of our Australia Day Award recipients.

We look forward to celebrating Australia Day with our community from 6pm on Sunday 26 January at the Civic Centre Terrace Lawns, 25 Ferres Boulevard, South Morang.
