Autumn school holiday fun awaits

Councils and eligible not-for-profit organisations looking to host activities over the upcoming autumn school holidays are urged to get in quick to secure funding under the NSW Government’s Holiday Break program.

Minister for Regional Youth Ben Franklin said the Holiday Break program continues to expand, meaning young people can take part in more activities than ever before, helping to keep young people connected and engaged, no matter their postcode.

“I’m so proud of the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government’s $10 million Holiday Break Program, which offers a variety of activities, ensuring there’s something for everyone no matter their interests, skill, ability or background,” Mr Franklin said.

All 93 regional councils and eligible not-for-profit organisations can apply for funding of up to $7,000 to cover the cost of running youth events from Saturday, 8 April 2023 to Sunday, 23 April 2023.

Mr Franklin said the funding can be used to support a wide range of activities including sport or performing arts activities, movie nights, and DJ workshops.

“If there’s an activity you’d like to see happen during the school holidays, now is the time to reach out to your local council or eligible not-for-profit organisation which, can help turn your dream into a reality,” Mr Franklin said.

Thanks to a growing base of program partners, Holiday Break is currently funding activities with organisations like Rugby NSW, KYUP! self-defence workshops, song writing classes with Create NSW and holiday camps with the NSW Office of Sport.

More than 55,000 young people have made the most of the Holiday Break program since it kicked off during the summer of 2019/20.

Councils and not-for-profit organisations are urged to get in quick, with applications opening Monday, 20 February and closing Friday, 3 March or until funds are exhausted.
