The Bass Coast Local Jobs and Careers Expos are back this August and September, returning to Wonthaggi and Phillip Island to connect local job seekers, employers, training providers and support services.
Now in their fifth year, the expos, delivered by Bass Coast Shire Council in partnership with Workforce Australia Local Jobs Program and the Victorian Skills and Jobs Centres, have become an important annual opportunity for people across Bass Coast to explore local employment, training and career pathways in one place.
The expos are designed to support people at all stages of their employment journey, from students and first-time job seekers through to career changers, people returning to the workforce, and those looking for additional work or a new local opportunity.
Businesses and services from a wide range of industries will be available on the day including Aligned Leisure, Kilcoy Global Foods, Mecwacare and Event Operations Group Austalia, with employers ready to speak directly with attendees about current and future opportunities. Local training providers and support services will also be on hand to provide advice on career pathways, apprenticeships, traineeships, skills development and further study options.
A physical Jobs Board will be on display at each expo, featuring current vacancies from local employers, including businesses that may not be exhibiting on the day.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, encouraged job seekers, students, career changers and local businesses to make the most of the expos.
“The Bass Coast Local Jobs and Careers Expos are about opening up conversations and creating real local connections,” Cr Tessari said.
“For job seekers, it is a chance to meet employers face-to-face, ask questions and explore pathways they may not have considered. For businesses, it is an opportunity to connect with local people who are ready to work, learn and contribute.
“When we support local employment, we strengthen our businesses, our families and our communities. These expos are a simple but powerful way to help people take that next step.”
The Victorian Government Small Business Bus will also be available at the Wonthaggi Expo, providing free business advice and support.
Job seekers are encouraged to bring along a resume, keep an open mind and take the opportunity to speak directly with employers and support services on the day.
There’s no need for job seekers to register – simply come along.
